Tend: Keep in Touch (“Tend”) is an iPhone app that helps you keep in touch with the people who matter to you. It is made by typif.ai (“we”). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.
What we collect
Nothing. Tend does not collect, transmit or share any personal data with us or with anyone else. There is no Tend account and no Tend server. Tend contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking code, and we never sell or share data, because we never have it.
What Tend keeps on your device
To do its job, Tend stores the information you give it:
- the people you add, with their details, tier, tags, relationship types, family members and notes;
- the interactions you log: date, type (call, coffee, text…), any notes, and any “give & get” you record;
- reminders, life events, introductions and connections between people;
- goals you set for a relationship and your answers to Tend's monthly check-in;
- the text of messages you write in Tend's composer, saved as a note on that interaction once it's sent;
- your settings, such as appearance, reminder preferences, cadence and message tone.
This lives in the app's own storage on your iPhone, shared only with Tend's own share extension and widgets on the same device.
iCloud sync
If you're signed in to iCloud, Tend keeps your data in sync across your devices using Apple's CloudKit, in your private iCloud database. That database belongs to your Apple Account: only you can read it, and we have no access to it. Apple stores it under Apple's Privacy Policy. Apple may send your device silent notifications to tell it new data is ready; these carry no content from Tend.
Your Contacts
If you allow it, Tend uses the Contacts on your iPhone to import people you pick and to keep their details up to date. Because your Contacts stay the source of truth for who someone is, edits you make in Tend to a person's name, company, role, phone, email, birthday or LinkedIn profile are written back to their contact card, and family members you add are saved to the card's Related Names. To find the right card for someone in Tend, or for one of their family members, Tend may search your Contacts by name, phone or email; it only changes the cards of people you've added. Tend reads and writes your Contacts on your device only. You can turn off access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Contacts.
Your Calendar
Calendar access is optional and off until you turn on “Suggest from Calendar” in Tend's Settings. Tend then reads events from the last 14 days, on your device, to suggest logging meetings with people in Tend. Nothing from your calendar is stored unless you choose to log a meeting; then Tend saves its date and title as that interaction's note. Tend never changes your calendar. You can turn off access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars.
On-device AI
Summaries, suggested messages and insights are written by Apple's on-device language model (Apple Intelligence). Everything the model sees stays on your iPhone. Nothing is sent to us, to Apple, or to any other AI service to be processed.
Messages, Mail and FaceTime
Tend can't read your messages, email or call history. When you send a message from Tend, it opens Apple's Messages or Mail with your text, and you send it yourself. Tend only learns whether it was sent, so it can log it. FaceTime calls start in Apple's FaceTime app; afterwards, Tend may ask whether you talked, and logs only what you tell it.
Tend also offers a Shortcuts action, “Log Message From”, that you can add to your own automations. It receives only what your automation passes to it: who a message or email is from and, if you choose, its text. The text is analyzed by the on-device model to note topics and anything to follow up on, then discarded; it is never stored. Tend doesn't set up this automation for you.
Share extension
If you share text or a link to Tend from another app, Tend saves it as an interaction for the person you choose. It sees only what you share, and only when you share it. If you share a LinkedIn profile, Tend can instead add that profile to a person, as described below.
LinkedIn profiles
When you add a LinkedIn profile you've shared to Tend, your iPhone requests that public profile page from LinkedIn, the way a link preview does, to read the person's name and role from the page title. This request goes directly from your device to LinkedIn; LinkedIn receives it like any web visit and handles it under its own privacy policy. Nothing goes through us. Tend doesn't sign in to LinkedIn or read anything else from it.
Notifications, widgets, Spotlight and Siri
- Reminders for birthdays, reaching out and follow-ups are scheduled on your device through iOS. You can turn them off in Tend's Settings.
- Widgets show your Tend Quotient and up to three people to reach out to. Widgets on your Lock Screen can be seen by anyone who sees your phone; leave them off if you'd rather not.
- Spotlight: Tend adds people's names, roles and companies to your iPhone's on-device search index, so you can find them from Search.
- Siri and Shortcuts can run Tend's actions, like logging an interaction. Siri requests are handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy.
Network access
Tend has no server and sends nothing to us. Its only network request of its own is fetching a LinkedIn profile page you've shared, described above. Anything else that leaves your device does so through Apple's services described above (iCloud, Messages, Mail, FaceTime, Siri).
Exporting your data
Settings → Your Data creates a JSON or CSV file of everything you've added to Tend (photos excluded). The file stays on your iPhone until you choose where to send it.
Deleting your data
You can delete a person from Tend at any time, and everything logged about them goes with them. Deleting the app removes everything stored on your iPhone. To also remove your synced copy, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage (or Storage) → Tend, and delete its data. Changes Tend made to your Contacts stay in your Contacts, where you can edit them as usual.
Children
Tend is not directed at children, and it collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If a future version ever needs a network service of our own, this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the change will be described on this page with a new date.
